A GRAND DAY OUT Thursday, 3 January, was a day off for me. Weather looked good so I decided to meet some fellow northerners who fly at the Timpa Field on Thursdays. Why Thursdays is special comes later. David Jenkins road along to keep me out of trouble (HA-ha). After a stop at the breakfast buffet, we departed SV about 8:00. The trip, which was about 1.7 hrs found Mr. Ford (My Truck) at the fully equipped Timpa field, which seems to be in the middle of no where. The field features an asphalt runway which looks to be about 600', smooth dirt run offs, plenty of canopy room, tables, telephone, indoor bath rooms w/ water and a drinking fountain! I'm told the city operates this, and a daily charge of $3.00 & AMA is all that's required. During the day we watched a mix of A/C types & flying styles, Trainers, Acros, Hot Rods, Electric's, Military and Giant Scale. There was even a 4 man open combat, that looked fun. Don, one of the locals, makes coffee, and about noon also serves Hot Lunch, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chili, and Pop, all on a donation basis. After a brief stop at a Tool Supply house and Hobby Barn we continued our trek home, thanks to Dave for contributing to A Grand Day Out.
