THE PREZ SEZ

Hi Everyone

November is almost here and I was hoping to have some new information regarding the runway resurfacing project, but as of today no news. So all I can give you is what I know so far. The word the city is using is ...Soon!  All the rumors I'm hearing say end of October/ early November. They will be asphalting 400 ft by 40 ft and the "taxi ways" through the four gates. Also the city has agreed to center stripe the runway which will help us all with alignment coming in on final approach. As soon as I get more information I'll pass it on to you all, but if you're a week day flyer don't be surprised if you show up at the field only to find out they've started.

This next meeting, Thursday November 1st, will be the last one of the year. Decembers meeting will be the MMRCC Christmas ( yes I said Christmas! ) dinner and I'll be sending out more details to all members by E mail soon. If you can make the time please plan to attend, this club is not just about flying it's also about fellowship with people who have the same interests you do. No one else wants to hang out with a bunch of people who don't think twice about paying out a thousand bucks on a model airplane.  We must be nuts!!

As you can see by the minutes most of the club officers have agreed to stay on for another year. The only change proposed is Rory Boyer for VP replacing Sherry Fox. So if you have a yen to run for office this next meeting will be your last chance.

See you all at the field

Mick Fox

From the Sacramento Valley Soaring, Novato, California

You’re Addicted to RC, When…

1         You read nothing but transmitter and model manuals in the bathroom.

2         You have converted a mobile home to have room for all your airplanes with just space enough to sleep.

3         Your RC insurance costs more then your car’s.

4         You have something RC within a radius of 5 feet from you at all times.

5         You’ve heard, “Hey that looks just like the airplane I tossed in the bin after crashing last week,” more than once at your flight field.

6         A full-scale airplane passes overhead and you move your thumbs to match its movements.

7         If you plan to go outside for any reason and it’s windy, you go back inside again and find out when it’s due to be calm next.

8         When the power steering goes, you tell the people at the garage to change the servo.

9         If you worked feverishly in all your free time, it would take three years to clear up your backlog of kits.

10      You host a fun-fly when it’s so cold that one of the events is starting your engine.

11      You accept a crash as an opportunity to start a great new kit.

12      Every time you pass a garage sale, you look for wings.

13      If you spend more money at the local hobby shop in one hour than you make in a month.

14      You keep your old van just to transport airplanes in.

15      When you go to Home Depot and the PVC pipe and fittings section gives you ideas for new wing racks instead of plumbing projects.

16      The smooth tarmac bike trail at your local park has funny airport markings sprayed on it.

17      You car has a ski box on its roof, yet you never go skiing.

18      You have a “special room” for your airplanes.

19      You have a gallon drum of adhesive in your shed.

20      You have at least three different heating irons.

21      You neck shows a white strip, that is the same width as your transmitter strap.

Old Business:

CORPORATE FLIGHT TRAINING:

From the September meeting:  Bill Hermes brought up AMA rule that only AMA member pilots can fly at an AMA insured field.  Request that Michael Fox ask the City of Sierra Vista to post a sign which states this rule.  Discussion ensued about training of private company pilots at the field.  The corporate instructors and pilot trainees have been informed and they have obtained or are in the process of obtaining AMA memberships.  Steve Mason stated that he has read an FAA Rule about corporate training at AMA insured fields.  He said he would try to locate a copy of the FAA rule and bring it to the October meeting.

Per the Sept. 6, 2007 meeting, Michael Fox was to ask the City of Sierra Vista about posting a new sign stating that flight training of private sector employees for corporate benefit could not take place at an AMA insured field.  Mick said that the City is not concerned with this issue until the AMA issues a formal statement.

Also, Steve Mason submitted an excerpt from the federal register, vol. 72, no. 29, Tuesday, February 13, 2007, pages 6689 and 6690.  Under 14 CFR Part 91, this posting includes the FAA’s current policy concerning operations of unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System.  Under recreational/Sport Use of Model Airplanes there is this Policy Statement.:

“The current FAA policy for UAS [Unmanned Aircraft Systems] operations is that no person may operate a UAS in the National Airspace System without specific authority.  For UAS operating as public aircraft the authority is the COA [Certificates of Waiver or Authorization}, for UAS operating as civil aircraft the authority is special airworthiness certificates, and for model aircraft the authority is [Advisory Circular] AC 91-57.

The FAA recognizes that people and companies other than modelers might be flying UAS with the mistaken understanding that they are legally operating under the authority of AC 91-57.  AC 91-57 only applies to modelers, and thus specifically excludes its use by persons or companies for business purposes.”

FUN FLY OCTOBER 13th:

Glo engines, no AMA sanction Beginner and Sportsman classes of competition, 4- events.  The events are Poker Hand, Climb & Glide, Barrel Race (ground taxi around ballons), and Dice Roll (roll dice, take off, trim plane, land, roll dice until roll matches first roll) and an a “Tie-Breaker” event.  Pilot Briefing will be at 7:30 A.M. and Flight starts at 8:00 A.M.

Mick will be grilling hot dogs and has requested some help with cooking and side dishes.

Bill Hermes has some volunteers to help with judging and would like a few more.

New Business:

AWNING at FIELD:

The club owned awning and frame were brought out of storage for use at the last Fun Fly event.  It was not put away after the event and was used all summer by several club members to shade their planes in the pit area.  Per Jerry West, the awning was purchased for use during club events only and he is of the opinion that it should be maintained in storage between events.

During the discussion which followed, most members present considered the summer use as acceptable.  And there was a statement that perhaps the club should consider extending the shade cover over the pit area.

A motion was made and seconded that the summer use did not constitute a major misuse of club property.  This motion was approved by the majority of members present.

Note:  the tarp has disappeared from the locker and Eric Fisher offered to purchase a replacement.

BOLLIN FIELD PAVING:

Pres. Michael Fox said that per a discussion with City Parks and Recreation Director John Startt ,  paving for Bollin Field would be included within the budget for repaving other parking lots and driveways maintained by the City Parks Dept.

(Note:  Thursday Oct. 10, a paving contractor made a pre-bid site visit to Bollin Field.  The bid is based upon a 40 ft. wide by 400 ft. long paved area).

NOMINATIONS FOR CLUB OFFICERS:

Pres:  Michael Fox to continue as president

        V. Pres:  Sherri Fox or Ron Boyer

Treas:  Tom Fenn to continue as treasurer

Secretary:  Tom Campbell to continue as secretary.

Motion by Bill Hermes, Second by Dave Fields.  Approved by all present.

7:40 P.M.  Motion by Steve Mason, Second by Ron Boyer for the meeting to adjourn.

OCTOBER FUN FLY

Hey Folks,

The October Fun Fly happened on 13 October, and lots of you came out.  Two folks participated in Sportsman class (Tommy and Jeff), and seven participated on Masters class ( Mick Fox, Jerry West, Steve Mason, Tom Lajoie, Bill Hermes, Eric Fisher and Dave Fields).  Through some bad luck aka losing his planes muffler, Mick was out of the competition very early in the contest.  The results of the contest were wins by Steve Mason in the Poker Hand and Dice Roll, and by Eric Fisher in the Climb and Glide, Barrel, and Heuvos Grande events.

My thanks to both Steve and Eric for their help in both the setup and scoring of the event, to Will Herman and my grandson Jake, and to Mick Fox for his always exemplorary cooking.

MEETING
