The President's Corner

This month, my article is on safety. Safety is all-important to every person that comes to the field, not just to the pilots. I had a discussion
this week with a wizened old fellow, who explained some things to me. For one thing, frequency control is paramount - if you don't have the frequency clip, don't turn on your transmitter. In order to remember the clip, I try to make it a point to visit the frequency box first thing when I get to the field. Second thing, make sure that you have the right clip. If you don't, the results will be the same as not having the clip. Third, please remember that we have absolutely zero control over and aircraft which has two different transmitters talking to it on the same frequency; the aircraft will more than likely come straight down, more than likely at full throttle.  Now this is bad enough when we are north of the fence line, and the pilot/owner loses his aircraft and everything in it, but consider this -what if the aircraft is just passing near the pits or parking lot? Can anyone guarantee me that it won't hit a person or a vehicle? Please think about it.

Until next month, fly safe!

Bill.
