The Prez Sez
Hi Everyone
Hopefully by now everyone got the
message about the change in date for this months meeting. If you didn't
please make sure the club has your updated e mail address. This is the
best way we have to get information out to the members. If you didn't
read the e mail then sorry I can't help you.
So May is upon us and the wind is still
blowing with only four weeks to go before the open house. The word from
the Tucson Barnstormers is they're looking forward to coming down again
to entertain us all. They still talk about flying last year in 20mph+
winds and what a great time they had. Hats off to those guys, let's make
them feel welcome this year.
Something that came up at the last
meeting was flying over the runway. As a guideline only it is suggested
that airspace over the runway is for Takeoffs, Landings & touch and go's
which should all be announced to anyone else on the flight line. Also instructors
with students practicing alignment and approaches should let other
pilots know their intentions. If you want to refight a WW II dogfight
with your P51 6 feet off the runway doing 80mph please wait for everyone
to clear the air or ask ahead of time if its going to bother anyone. I
would suggest that if a student is in the air that you wait till they
are back on the ground. We know it's a lot of fun to do and we don't
want to make rules banning it so please be a little thoughtful of
others.
See you all at the meeting
Mick
MMRCCINC MINUTES APR 3, 2008

Guests: None
Treasurer’s report: $1,802.56 in check account. $2,702.67 in savings
account. Motion to accept: Will Hermann, Second: Bill Hermes,
Approval: unanimous
Safety: Discussion about High Speed low passes over the runway. Bill
Hermes had contacted AMA and Greg Hahn Responded, saying “ That it is
good practice to keep most flying beyond the runway (past the barbed
wire fence at Bollin Field). However, club members can not keep someone
from flying over the runway”. It is COMMON CURTISEY for each pilot to
operate his/her aircraft in a safe manner. Club President to send out
an e-mail about this subject to all members.
Flight
Training: Marvin Brown, Bill McCoy, Bruce Kenner and Heath. The
intro-pilot program collects a $25 fee from each new student to cover
the cost of fuel and maintenance & repair of training planes. However,
some new students immediately join the club and purchase their own plane
and fuel. There was discussion without resolution, about the fairness
of this policy.
Old
Business: Tarp for shade cover – Steve Mason purchased a replacement
tarp and new bungi fasteners. Motion by Eric Fisher to reimburse Steve
the sum of $35. Second by Don Adams. Approved.
Father’s Day Fun Fly – The Climb and Glide is an AMA sanctioned event.
The other events are Open. Two of the events will be Poker Hand and Roops. Request for the membership to suggest other events for
consideration.
Some
discussion about temporary runway marking. Steve Mason said that
masking tape works very well.
Open
House – (editor note: see web site for info)
Trainer
planes: There are enough trainers and pilot available
Advertising: Some discussion about
getting the word out around town.
Flight Simulator: Mick Fox has a
computer and software available which will be set up in Jerry West’s
trailer.
Food: Blake Hardy will be providing
food service. He needs to list the City on a Food Insurance Binder.
Mick to talk to the City about this.
Flight Demonstration: The Barnstormers
will be coming again this year. Eric Fisher made a motion for the club
to offer them meal coupons and $100 reimbursement for gas. Second by R.
Bouilly. Approved.
Toilet Facilities: Mick to ask the City
for a second Port-O-Pot.
Clean up day – A field clean up day is
scheduled for Saturday, 17 May.
New
Business: Mick will ask the City if they will install a flagpole. Then
the club could purchase a flag. Also, Mick will talk to the City about
runway stripping; centerline, Xs at ends of runway and an engine shut
off line across the taxiways.
Starting Benches – Marvin Brown purchased materials for four new
benches. He was helped by Don Adams and Larry Weatherwax with the
construction. We now have six start-up benches at the field.
Weeds –
Mick stated that weeds are growing up through the new pavement and he is
talking to the City about weed control.
I.D.’s
left on frequency Board – People are leaving their drivers licenses and
Military CAC cards on the frequency board. This is a very bad habit;
especially so with military I.D.’s.
There
is junk in the run-up area and people are not using it for engine
testing. Request that members and others use the engine run-up stand
for engine testing. It is very difficult for conversations when someone
is testing an engine in the pit area. Also, a test stand is needed for
the run-up area.
Meeting
Adjourned at 7:45. Motion to adjourn by Steve Mason, Second by Ron
Boyer.
