The
Prez Sez
Hi Folks,
It's May already, and soon the summer (and associated heat) will be upon
us. As many of you know, I've recently decided to explore powered gliders,
and I'm hoping for some thermals to ride.
Because of the recent conflicts with frequency pins and transmitters being
turned on inadvertently, at the request of the club membership we have
installed a new large transmitter impound area. My thanks to Ray
Beck and Doyle Varbel for their hard work. Now folks, in order for the
liability issue to be negated, we will all need to observe some important
rules.
1. When you arrive at the field, put your transmitter in the impound area,
and make sure that it is off.
2. Get the frequency pin when you are ready to fly, and put it back after
flying, and the transmitter back into impound.
3. It goes without saying that if you don't have the pin, don't turn on
the transmitter. If you do, you will assume full financial and legal responsibility
for damages you cause.
4. Please be very sure that your transmitters are turned off before you
put them into impound.
5. And last, but not least, don't pick up some one elses transmitter from
the impound area FOR ANY REASON. If you pick it up, and drop it, you bought
it, and there are at least five pilots out there that have transmitters
that cost upwards of $1,000.
I expect the Arizona State Corporation Commission to inform us any day
now that we are fully incorporated. Our corporation name will be (to the
best of my knowledge) Mesquite Modelers Radio Control Club Inc. My thanks
to Tom Fenn and his daughter and her employer for making the incorporation
happen, at a price far below the estimate.
Last, but not least, my sincere apologies for all the hard work the members
did for the Mall Show, which did not happen. I will ask the members to
do another Mall Show later this year, but I think we all learned that we
need to give our folks at AMA in Muncie more time to provide
insurance coverage. I have no doubt that they tried, and I'm reasonably
certain they faxed the coverage to the Mall folks. However, something went
wrong, and the Mall folks said "no insurance proof, no show". We need to
accept that; it's their rule, and their Mall. Let's not hold any ill feelings,
but rather do our best to reach the community and all those folks who have
a genuine interest in our hobby.
Until next month, keep 'em flying! Bill
