The
Prez Sez
Hi Folks,
This month's newsletter
article will cover several topics of interest, not the least of which is
our latest meeting with City officials regarding the runway. Tom Fenn and
I met with John Startt III (the Director of Leisure Services) on 11 April.
The topic of this meeting was what did the Club want (paved runway, power,
water, shade, better pilot stations, operator status and over flight rights
on Bella Vista Ranches, and what were we willing to pay for that. As most
of you know, there are more issues on the plate than paving the runway,
and we might as well get them all on the table especially if someone can
see a way of accomplishing some of them directly and at little or
no cost.
Mr. Startt acknowledged
our list, and told us that he had been given direction from several City
Council members to work with Mesquite Modelers to accomplish our goals.
Our supporting City Council members are Mrs. Dockter, Mr. Johnson, Mrs.
Huisking, and Mr. Gallegos. To the best of my knowledge this is the first
time that we have ever had this much support from the City Council. Mr.
Startt told Tom and I that he had the ball, and would proceed to work our
actions through the Parks and Leisure Services committee and the City Council,
and then get back to us. I expect those folks to
say "okay, and here is the cost". We will cross that bridge when
we come to it.
On the safety side
of the house, the club voted to make spotters mandatory when two or more
pilots are flying at Bollin Field. Remember, when the first pilot or pilot
and student take off a spotter is optional. But when the second one
takes off, all pilots in the air at that time must have a spotter or must
land.
Finally, please get
your planes (and entrance fees) ready for the Father's Day Fun Fly to be
held 14 June. We will be doing the classics - climb and glide, poker hand
and bomb drop for which I plan to award plaques for first place.
I also plan to hold a "mystery event" to remain nameless until the day
of the event.
See you there, Bill.
The Lighter Side
Law of Probability Dispersal: Whatever
it is that hits the fan will not be evenly distributed.

more clearly that you are able to think. - Neils Bohr
On the other hand,
you have different fingers. - Bill Hermes
"Never explain: Your
friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.

The quality of your
landings is inversely proportional to the number of people watching you!

thinks slowest!
And finally, a little
bull goes a long way, but too much stinks.(This little tidbit was in a
note to me from our northern most member, Bart)
Club Meeting
The next meeting of
the MMRCC is scheduled for May 1, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. The meeting will be
held at the TRW facility (Highway 90 Bypass). Personnel are required to
sign-in and sign out for security purposes.
FROM THE EDITOR’S
DESK
The following were borrowed from
the AMA web site.
Flying a model airplane
is not dangerous; crashing it is dangerous.
It’s a good landing
if you can still bend the landing gear back to its normal position.
The nicer an airplane
looks, the more likely it is to crash. This is all for now.
See you at the meeting
next Thursday and at the field. Will |
