The Prez Sez

    Hello again,

It's the last day of March and it's been a long and productive month. It started out with Bill Hermes and me installing the new frequency control board at the field. We had a lot of help from a gallery of interested and well meaning spectators. They gave us a lot of advice but little in the way of actual physical labor. Despite it all the new board is up and running. It's a big change from the days of the clothes pin on the antenna so be careful in the next few weeks until it becomes second nature. The rule is you only turn on your radio if your ID is clipped on the board on your open channel.

I know everyone wants to know who was the first person to forget their ID at the end of the day, I can answer that question. The honor went to Tom Campbell, so now that’s out of the way ....whoever has my MMRCC card that I left behind today please bring it to the meeting Thursday.

Eric Fisher and I met with John Startt of parks and leisure and were very pleased with the backing for the upcoming open house. The city will be printing flyers at no cost to us and getting us in the Fun and Stuff insert of the SV herald. We also got the news that the runway is about to be resurfaced. May 7th is the tentative start date and is expected to take 2 or 3 days.

Open house plans are starting to come together. Eric will be updating club members at the upcoming meeting. We are still looking for volunteers to take on specific tasks on the day so if you're willing please talk to Eric. One piece of good news is that the company I work for, Toshiba Business Solutions, has agreed to purchase a Nexstar trainer for us to raffle at the event. In return we'll be putting up some Toshiba signs at the field on the day. They're hoping for some good local coverage and getting their name out into the community.

Then we had the visit from Fiona De Young and Mark Levy of the SV Herald. I didn't know what to expect from them but seeing a full color Picture of Don Adams littering Sierra Vista on the front page was a great surprise. The article had a couple of errors but on the whole I thought it was very positive in portraying the club. Anyone disagree?

On a personal note, this year I received an unexpected Birthday gift ...my son arrived from England for a three week visit. So if you see us out and about be sure to say hi. He gets his good looks from me.

See you all Thursday at the meeting

 Mick

Bollin Field Safety Report: No new items.

     Flight Training:

Steve Mason and Eric Fisher are working with Bill Lewis.

Discussion about location of Club owned airplanes and transmitters.  Custody transferred from Pete Haring to Eric Fisher.

          Old Business:

Bollin Field lease agreement with the City of Sierra Vista –

No news from the City of Sierra Vista.

Cable Fence – Eric Fisher stated that a draft letter, to the City of Sierra Vista, about the cable fence hazard, soon would be submitted to Mick Fox for his signature.

Bollin Field Frequency Board – New frequency board has arrived.  It will be installed Saturday March 3, 2007.

More discussion of how the board is to be used.  Frequency board should have a place for AMA Card and should not include a clothespin.  Members are not sure of how non-members without an AMA card should be represented on the board.  Eric Fisher commented that everyone will have to work hard to use the new board effectively.

Open House- Now scheduled for May 5, 2007.

Mick Fox stated that he and Eric Fisher would be visiting with John Startt about the Open House.

Mick said that someone from the Sierra Vista Herald would be at Bollin Field Saturday and everyone should bring out a plane to fly or display.  This is a visit for Open House advertising in the paper.

Large Windsock – Some members believe that the large windsock should be let go and not replaced. Other members believe that it should remain and be replaced as needed.  Either way, it is difficult to climb the pole to replace it.  This is a subject to be considered at a future meeting.  Perhaps someone can work up a method for easier replacement.

 Fathers Day Fun Fly:

CD is Bill Hermes.  Scheduled for June 16, 2007.  This year it will be an AMA sanctioned event 07864.  Two pilot classes will be held this year.  One for experienced pilots and one for pilots of lesser experience.  The events will be the Climb & Glide, ROOPs, Poker Hand and some sort of ground handling taxi event.

      New Business:

 Club Web Site:

Steve Mason Asked if the website could be updated.  It lists TRW (not Northrup Gruman) as the meeting site.  Also, the club roster needs to be updated.  Dave Fields said that he could correct the meeting site but he needs the new membership information for the roster.

Club Trainers – Eric Fisher has picked up old club trainer and radio gear from Pete Haring.  It is a Tower 40 with an OS LA engine.  Discussion followed about condition of old equipment and need to update equipment and obtain a second trainer.

Proposal by Eric Fisher for the club to purchase two OS 46AX engines, 5 new servos and a second trainer.  Total cost would be $407.50 less $50 in discounts from Tower Hobbies.

Motion by Bill Hermes to Accept proposal, 2ND by Rory Boyer.  Approval: unanimous.

Change to Article 10 of the Constitution:

Steve Mason submitted a proposed change to Article 10 Flight Training.  The article changes are based upon AMA recommendations and Steve’s experience.

See attachment submitted and formally entered into the minutes.

Motion by Steve Mason for change to Article 10 Flight training.  2nd by Bill Hermes.  Approved.

Club Brochure – Tom Campbell stated that MMRCCINC does not have a “brochure” handout.  He offered to have one drawn up and brought to the April meeting for review and approval.

Motion to adjourn:  Eric Fisher, Second: Don Adams

 Meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
