The Prez Sez
Hi everyone.
January is almost over and if you're a weekend flyer, like me, It's been
a bad month.
Every Friday I've charged a plane ready
to go Saturday morning only to wake up to wind, rain or snow.
My golf game is suffering too!
So my first meeting as President
was held on January fourth and boy was it ever a good one.
Talk about being thrown in at the deep
end. The turn out was the largest I can remember in the five
Years I've been attending. It was good
to see new members showing up and voicing their opinions,
it's what the meetings are for. As
expected the proposed lease of Bollin field was the hot topic and
we heard good arguments from both sides.
It made for a late evening. As of today the ball is still in
the city's court. Hopefully they will
present us their proposal soon and the members can decide our
next move.
The second big proposal was to hold
an open house / air show at the field in May. Hopefully this will get
the club some local publicity and attract new members. Eric Fisher has
taken the lead on this
so if you have ideas, or are willing to
help in organizing this event, he's the man to talk to.
We will also be trying to publish
the minutes of every meeting in the newsletter to keep all members
informed. Thanks to Tom Campbell and Will Herman for their efforts.
Boy it’s tough being President!!
See you all at the field.

Bollin Field Safety
Report:
1.
Horses - Jan 1, 2007, three horses were running loose on the
flying field. The horses were last seen running down the creek bed.
Sandy West attempted to locate the owner without success. The Sierra
Vista City Police Dept. was called. Bill Hermes contacted John Startt
(Director of Parks & Liesure) and Mr. Startt said that he would talk to
the Chief of Police.
2.
Cable Fence Reflectors - Eric Fisher voiced a concern about the
cable fence not have some sort of reflector to warn off-road bikers and
ATV riders. After some discussion there was a motion that MMRCC should
write a letter to the City of Sierra Vista identifying the danger and a
need for marking the cable fence.
3.
Radio Interference – Tom Campbell related a conversation about
possible radio interference from solar activity. Per Rich Hotchkiss,
the 72 mHZ band should not be affected by solar activity. Also, the new
2.4 gigaHZ, spread spectrum radios should have very little interference
due to the coding of the signals. There was a recommendation that
pilots who believe they lost a plane due to radio interference, should
write down a record of the date, time of day, weather, type of radio,
frequency & channel, etc.
4.
Frequency Board – Tom Campbell asked the members if they had any
good ideas for an improved Frequency Board. The clothespins are being
lost and some of the cable ties are breaking off. Some people are
writing their name on new clothespins. Some people are attempting to
fly without a frequency pin and this, results in crashed planes. After
some discussion, Jerry West said that he would visit the AMA booth at
the Oxnard Ca. Convention and report his findings at the February
meeting.

Old Business:
Bollin Field
lease agreement with the City of Sierra Vista –
Q: Why do we need
to lease the field?
A: This would
allow MMRCC to control Who Flies, Which types of aircraft are flown and
manage a safe flying style by all pilots.
Q: Would all non
club members be barred from flying?
A: No. This is
not an attempt to put a lock on the gate. Nor is this an attempt to
establish an exclusive (members only) flying field. MMRCC Inc. is
dedicated to maintaining a safe flying site to all radio control
modelers and prospective r.c. modelers.
Q: Would non club
members have to pay dues or a landing fee?
A: No, not at the
present. However, some fee schedule may have to be determined in the
future. It would be very difficult for the MMRCC membership to police
the field during all open hours of the park. One suggestion was for
members to sponsor non-members as a guest for the day.
Q: What would be
the liability of MMRCC and members?
A: Currently MMRCC
Inc. is liable in case of accident or injury. The City of Sierra Vista
liability is secondary or very remote. MMRCC was incorporated to
protect individual members from litigation. Each year, MMRCC Inc.,
purchases $2.5 mil.worth of insurance through the AMA.
Q: Would MMRCC
Inc.be responsible for trash removal and a Port-O-Pot?
A: Currently, it
is best, for the City, to continue these services through their large
contracts. It would cost MMRCC Inc. well over $1,000 per year to pay
for these services.
Q: Has a lease
agreement been written up?
A: Yes. The City
wrote up a lease agreement. However, the City reserved the right to
deny access without notice and without compensation and without
obligation to provide a new flying site. This lease agreement was
rejected by the past officers (Bill Hermes, Tom Fenn et. Al.). They
sent a counter lease which included five non-negotiable items
(clauses). To date, there is no response from the City.
New Business:
Small
Windsocks: MMRCC Inc. to purchase 11 new small windsocks (flags).
The existing small
windsocks have worn out. New ones need to be purchased and installed.
Motion by Steve Mason to buy new windsocks. Second by Rory Boyer.
Approval by all members present. Motion by Tom Rostenkoski to purchase
11 windsocks. Second by Dave Fields. Approval by all members present.
Sign on
Charleston Road: The Bollin Field sign on Charleston Rd. has been
missing since construction on the sewer main. Club officers to contact
Parks & Liesure (John Startt) and request installation of a new sign.
Father’s Day
Fun Fly: Motion by Eric Fisher and second by Rory Boyer for Bill Hermes
to be CD and lead planning effort for a Father’s Day Fun Fly. Date not
established.
Organization
Day/Open House: Motion by Eric Fisher and second by Tommy that a
committee be formed for planning of an Open House at Bollin Field. Date
not established. Eric & Tommy volunteered to head up the committee.
Tommy volunteered to talk to the Sierra Vista Herald about an
announcement in the paper.
Meeting Adjourned
at 8:20 PM. Motion by Eric Fisher, second by Rich Hotchkiss.
