New
Year’s Day Fun Fly
January 1rst,
2001 was a fun filled day down at Bolin field. The weather was perfect
for flying. Jerry Mingo, Tom Fenn, Bill Hermes, Dave Jenkins, Will Herman,
Chip Hyde, Ray Beck, Don Sanders, Jerry West, Eric Swisher, Al Tomlinson,
and Les Walslagel and many more, made sure they fulfilled tradition and
flew the first day of the year.
Dick Smith
the designer and manufacturer of the Doghouse Extreme aircraft, was also
present. Several pilots flew the Doghouse Extreme aircrafts during the
course of the day. |
The
action became hot and heavy and the sky filled with streamers when Tom
Fenn, Chip Hyde and a couple more pilots performed a combat flying exhibition.
It was AWESOME!
A pilot from Tucson , named Alex
(didn’t get his last name), trilled all present with his X-60
helicopter. He made that aircraft perform maneuvers I’ve never seen
done before.
There was also a moment of excitement
when one of the pilots experienced a malfunction with his radio and lost
control of his aircraft. That flying machine was headed south at a fast
clip. Luckily the pilot was able to regain control and bring in the aircraft
to a three-point landing.
All in all it was great day for
all those present.
Become part of the tradition. Next
New Years Day come on out and enjoy the fun!
The President’s
Corner
It’s January and already things are
off to a great start for the MMRCC for 2001.
In March MMRCC will be conducting
another static display at the Mall in Sierra Vista. The date has tentatively
been set for Saturday March 10, 2001 from 0900-1600. I have been in contact
with Ms. Anna Steffen , the Marketing Director for the Mall, and she’s
excited that we would like to return for another display. |
Events
such as these are good for the community as well as promoting the Radio
Control Aircraft Hobby.
MMRCC is looking for someone who
is building an aircraft or a portion of an aircraft. We would like for
that person to work on a portion of the aircraft during the display, to
give the public an idea how the aircraft are built. Anyone interested in
doing this please contact me.
On January 12, I received and E-mail
from Tom Fenn stating that there was a young lady at the field from the
city of Sierra Vista to look at the paving project. She said the survey
was on her desk and that it was a single item, not attached to another
project. The monies have been allocated for this fiscal year and that means
completion not later than the end of June. She thought the project was
not far from starting.
It appears that our runway will
soon be paved!
Also in the works is a Cross-Country
flight that will be conducted sometime this summer. All of these events
are club sponsored and we need your help. Anyone interested in helping
please contact any club officer.
The Mesquite Modelers Club is what
the members make of it. If our club is going to continue to flourish, membership
participation is an essential ingredient.
This is going to be an exciting
year!
Onward and upward!
